Here it is. Snails (no pearls here, sorry). Try not to think about the slip, the slide, the slow moving trail leaving critters that you see crawling all around your yard right after a heavy rain storm. Just think about how beautiful you’ll feel knowing that your skin is being taken care of with these 5 must have snail creams.
How did we get to the point where pointing snail slime on our skin, and paying for it, became a thang? Well, blame Dr. Hippocrates (Greek guy, way back when, used to crush snails and mix them with sour goats milk, and yeah, rub it all over the skin of his patients who were swollen. Or so the internets say.). Or blame Chilean snail farmers whose hands should have been rough (they’re farmers for effs sake) but noticed that their skin was silkier than their wives’ paws. No, really.
Why does snail slime work? Simply put, snails excrete mucin and mucin has: hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, antimicrobial and copper peptides, and proteoglycans. Man, that’s a lot of big words. They work wonders on skin. More technically (like you care, you just want to buy this stuff!!!), lab studies have suggested that snail slime stimulates the production of elastin and collagen, increases a glycoprotein production, and stimulates a type of cell that helps with cell healing.
Sooooo, it seems like snail slime kind of works. What do you think? We at Snails and Pearls obviously agree 🙂 and are all in.
Try these out for yourself and let us know on Facebook what you think.
